Dancing Jazz History: Black History Month 2024

‘Dancing Jazz History’ is an event celebrating Black women jazz dancers incorporating practice and theory with dance and music workshops, an exclusive presentation by Jreena Green, a panel discussion featuring Myrna Hague, and a jazz jam party hosted by Lee Payne. It is in London on 26 October 2024 which is Black History Month in Britain. The event is organised by PhD researcher, Annette Walker with AHRC-LAHP Student-Led Activities Award, and is supported by Coin Street, Jazz Dance Collective, Tap Dance Research Network UK and St John’s Waterloo.

The Jazz Dance Collective is an organisation that is making JAZZ HISTORY the foundation of its practice. Jazz was created by African Americans, emerging at a period to liberate the people from the pain and inequality of the New World. It was born out of oppression but gave great freedom to the wider African diaspora, working through pain and hardship using skill and joy. Jazz enriches and frees the soul.
