Class plan for Wed 2nd December: Classic tap repertoire
The Shim Sham and BS Chorus are classic but popular routines dating back to the late 20s and early 30s. Sometimes tap dancers are invited to join in with these routines at tap dance jams or festivals around the world so here’s your chance to learn and brush up on the steps.
Expect a dynamic tap warm-up before off we go! We’ll be revising the original 32-bar Shim Sham and the Freeze Chorus before learning the 32-bar classic BS chorus (not to be confused with Eddie Brown’s BS Chorus). There’s a lot to learn in this fast-paced class covering these classic routines that every rhythm tap dancer should be familiar with.
A general level class for those returning to tap after a break or just wanting to work at a steady pace.
We’ll start with fun and dynamic combinations to work on tap technique before going on to learn the classic Shim Sham routine.
This is a nice, easy-paced class geared towards building and working on your tap vocabulary. This week we’ll be covering the steps from the classic Shim Sham with the aim of learning the original 32-bar routine and associated Freeze Chorus.
Steps of the original 32-bar Shim Sham (aka Shim Sham Shimmy and Sham):
1) Double Shuffle
2) The Cross Over
3) Tack Annie
4) Falling Off a Log
Class plan for Wed 9th December
