These tap sessions combine exercises for the musical and technical skill of tap dance with reference to its historical African-American jazz roots. Learn classic repertoire passed down by current masters and past practitioners, discover new choreography and develop in how to blend dance and music to play and jam with others.
Tap dance is a technically challenging but fun interdisciplinary art form of dance and music. Tap dance shoes are strongly advised for classes but hard-soled shoes can be worn for absolute beginners to get started. No prior tap experience required. Beginners are encouraged to learn by watching and listening more advanced dancers as well as participate in exercises. More advanced students have the opportunity to develop teaching others.
About Annette’s tap practice
Annette Walker’s tap musicianship has a foundation in the classic jazz and African-American rhythm tap repertoire . With a background in music (piano, violin, singing) and a wide experience in dance (tap, Lindy Hop, ballet, modern, contemporary, hip hop, salsa, ballroom and more) she has a unique approach to embodying both dance and music and creates fun and challenging exercises and routines to keep you on your toes.
